The British Way is an episode from The Goon Show It is the twelfth show in the fourth series. The recording was made at Aeolian I, 135–137 New Bond Street, London at 9pm on Sunday 13 December 1953.

The first British public broadcast was on the Home Service on Friday 18 December 1953 at 9.30pm (except Northern Ireland and the West). It reached a peak listenership of 1.5m. The show's first repeat was on the Light Programme on Saturday 13 December 1953 at 10.15pm, it was listened to by 1.1m people.

No publically available recording is known to exist as of 28 June 2024.

Sketches

  • The end of the year sees the Goons give vent to their patriotic feelings on politics, women, bravery and marriage (from The British Way of Life).
  • I was Lady Chatterley's Gardner — a dramatised version of Motor Transport Boards Progress Report for 1926 — sees Mr Justice Quiphorn talking to witnesses in the court case such as Eccles, PC Fred Bogg, investigator Milton Drag and Minnie and Crun, whose atomic cannon is firing trams out to sea.
